About Ruth Harris
I have always looked at the world slightly differently, one early memory was of sitting in the family car and being fascinated by the shadows from the clouds moving in front of us, racing the car. The effect of light on ordinary things makes them extraordinary, and I try to capture some of that in my paintings.
I'm particularly fascinated by flowers, with their three dimensional forms proving to be the perfect vehicle to explore light. My passion is watercolours, and the combination of flowers and watercolour paint which produces magic on the paper.
My other passion is colour.... watercolours have a unique character and are capable of producing soft, washy colours or incredibly vibrant colours simply by adding more or less water. I like to challenge the popular misconception that watercolours are all pale and washy by using strong colour in exciting combinations.
